Kilkenny Finishes Second in Development Division :: 4th May 2008
Ravens can't fly through Storm
This Saturday, the DkIT Ravens hosted Kilkenny City Storm in both teams' last match of the season. The game got off to a quick start, with the Ravens drawing first blood early on. That was going to be there only goal, however, as a dominating Kilkenny side swept to an 8 - 1 victory.
Thanks to the Ravens for a good clean match, and commiserations on not making the playoffs. We look forward to seeing you again next year.
With the regular season now over for the Storm, we are looking towards the playoffs. We finished in 2nd place, two points behind the Dublin Wolves, but the upcoming playoffs will decide the overall league winner. The two playoff games will be held over the course of a weekend, probably the 24/25th May, but this is to be confirmed. We urge all fans in Kilkenny to come along and support us. If transport is an issue, just contact us and we'll try to sort something out.
Finally, best of luck to the other 3 teams competing in the playoffs - it's sure to be the most exciting hockey event of the year for all of us!
Storm triumph over Rams once again :: 19th April 08
Last Saturday, Kilkenny City Storm faced the Dublin Rams B for the second time in two weeks. The Storm once again came out on top with a 7 - 3 victory. The scoreline does not do justice to a Rams team who were on top of their game and battled hard right until the final whistle. Although the Dublin side had only one goal heading into the third period, they showed their determination by scoring twice in the final two minutes. Both goals came on a powerplay as Kilkenny were penalised down to 3 skaters. Unfortunately for the Rams, the Storm were also on top of their game, and outclassed their opponents at both ends of the ice for the majority of the game in what was a superb team effort.
The Storm want to thank the Rams for a great game, and wish them luck in the race for a playoff spot. With only one regular season game remaining for Kilkenny, we have secured second place in the league, and are looking forward to a tough and exciting battle for the playoff title.
Storm tears up another weekend double-header :: 12/13th April 08
This weekend, a busy Kilkenny team saw another double round of action in the Ice Dome. For the second week in a row, the Storm took on Dundalk locals, the Bulls, facing off against both the Bulls B and Lady Bulls teams.
On Saturday night, Kilkenny City Storm took on the Bulls B in what promised to be a repeat of the previous weekend's fast and exciting game. The match saw both teams take a high number of penalties, neither side willing to give an inch to their opponents. Though the final result was 5-1 to the Storm, in reality it was a close, heated match.
On Sunday night, a depleted Kilkenny squad met the Lady Bulls. The game got off to a late start due to an injury break after the Storm goalkeeper took a puck to the throat during warm-up. When the face-off eventually came, the ladies were out to show how much they've improved since the teams' last meeting, and were the first on the scoreboard with a determined effort that caught the Storm defence off guard. Though the Storm kept the pressure on the Bulls for the remainder of the match, the ladies stayed strong and got several good chances on goal. The game ended 8 - 1 in favour of Kilkenny..
The Storm extend our thanks to both Bulls teams for a thoroughly enjoyable weekend of hockey. We wish both teams the best of luck in the rest of their games.
With the playoffs approaching, the Storm have secured a place in the top two spots of the league. Only two regular season matches remain; we encourage all interested supporters to make an effort to come cheer on the team in the upcoming games. Contact us via e-mail, or drop a message in the Chatbox to the right if you're interested in going and need advice on transport.
